Glamping in Joshua Tree, California | 13 Amazing Tents, Igloos & More

Joshua Tree is a world-famous location known for its unique landscape and trees. The tree – or plant species – is commonly known as yucca brevifolia, and is found in the arid regions of California. A nearby city and national park take its name, and this region is where many holidaymakers enjoy time away from the hustle of the urban environment.

Here the night skies are vast and clear. The landscape is covered with rugged rock formations and these unique trees. The two deserts that border it,  the Mojave and the Colorado deserts, provide the visitor with endless opportunities for hikes and nature appreciation.

For the best experience, it is highly recommended you consider camping – or even better – glamping in Joshua Tree. Choose from a number of options, including tents, yurts, and RVs, all with their own charms and highlights. To that end, here are some great Joshua Tree glamping options for your consideration.

Joshua Tree Glamping – The Best Destinations

Glamping in Joshua Tree

Enjoying the majesty and splendor of Joshua Tree National Park glamping should involve a little bit of lifestyle immersion too. Desert regions like Joshua Tree or even Mammoth Lakes require a sense of roughing it out in order to truly immerse oneself in the beauty of its flora, fauna, and landscape.

Of course, not everyone might appreciate carrying a tent in their backpack. Fortunately, these glamping options provide some great opportunities for experiencing desert life without too much inconvenience.

Luxury Limo Adventure Sprinter for Unique Joshua Tree “Glamping” Experience

  • What Makes it Unique: Stay mobile in a sprinter while camping
  • Number of guests: 2
  • Amenities: Mobile sleeper and basic food prep facilities

The host has come up with an amusing way to describe this somewhat unique glamping option. The Land Yacht is a converted sprinter vehicle, providing a cozy sleeping space and some basic facilities to keep your vacation maintained, enjoyable, and mobile.

One of the great bonuses is that you don’t even have to set it up yourself. Drive to the various attractions as you go along, and visit as much of the park as you like – there is a lot worth seeing. Then, simply get the hosts to find a good parking/camping spot and set you up for the rest of the day and evening.

Yes, the hosts will drive the camper to the designated camping spot and set it up for you. They already know all the requirements anyway. In addition to being a luxury camping accommodation option, the sprinter is generator-powered and provides a comfortable drive.

All things considered, this is a unique and very exciting way to run a holiday – what’s better than being chauffeur-driven around during your vacation?

The Star Vintage Trailer at The Buzzards Roost Permaculture Ranch Joshua Tree

  • What Makes it Unique: Entirely solar powered with a sci-fi Hollywood feel
  • Number of guests: 2-4
  • Amenities: Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and shower, living area

Colorful and charming, this trailer offers a bit of movie glamor that’s appropriate for California. The outside is painted in a sort of cosmic colored starfield. Approaching the trailer feels like you’re part of a sci-fi movie’s opening scene.

The inside is extremely cozy, with wood-paneled finishes and a 50s-age flow to the furnishings and layout. With trailers, the key to convenience and comfort is flow, and this trailer has that, with clever curves and angles in the right places.

All in all, the trailer spans 7×30 feet and contains a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and shower. The covered deck area provides some shade from the desert midday sun. But the real feel of the environment is one of isolation and quiet, which is exactly why you would want to visit.

Still, it’s nice to have a slightly otherworldly feel to your trailer, and you can feel at home as you watch the skies for unidentified objects.

One thing to note is there are no facilities for fires or BBQs due to environmental concerns. But the indoor kitchen has a vintage fridge and stove that should suffice nicely for all your food preparation needs. And you’ll be happy to know that the entire trailer is powered by a solar array.

Red Rocket Vintage Trailer at The Buzzards Roost Permaculture Ranch

  • What Makes it Unique: More sci-fi, totally environmentally friendly
  • Number of guests: 2-4
  • Amenities: Kitchen, bathroom, shower, bedroom, living area

The Star Vintage Trailer mentioned above has a couple of sister trailers that you might want to look into if you’re planning on bringing a larger group. The Red Rocket Vintage trailer is spacious and easily accommodates up to 4 people — perfect for a trip with family or friends.

Once again, there are elements of old Hollywood. But this trailer features a more “atomic age” feel to its interior. As with its twin, there’s a fair amount of sitting and sleeping space. Heaters will keep you warm on cooler days and nights, while air conditioners keep things cool inside during the hot days.

The hosts take the evening sky and stargazing seriously, too. There are few lights in the complex – just enough to get around safely. All of this creates a sensational viewing experience for the beautiful starry sky at night.

Outside, kids can enjoy the desert-style playground. There are also a few shade structures to keep the sun off the front of the trailer.

This is a superb place for a quiet getaway. The vast openness of the surrounding terrain will provide that replenishing sense of isolation, even with a few other trailers on the lot. With the complex’s commitment to green living, you can also feel an extra level of disconnect, safe in the knowledge that everything here is sustainable.

J – Tree RV

You can choose a sleeping configuration, with a maximum of three queen beds fitting into the space. Self-cater with a kitchen and enjoy your meal outside on the deck – it really is worth the experience.

JTHAVN – Joshua Tree Remote Airstream Swing Bed Stargazing!

  • What Makes it Unique: The incredible suspended outdoor bed and living area
  • Number of guests: 2
  • Amenities: Outdoor bed, indoor bedroom, kitchen, outdoor living space

The concept behind this amazing rental asks and answers a very pertinent question. Why come all the way out here if you’re not going to enjoy the wilderness in all its glory? The answer is, you wouldn’t.

Many of the regular amenities of accommodation, like a bedroom, a living area, a kitchen and so on, are outside! So you can sleep under the stars in a gorgeous suspended bed.

You can venture between decks via a small boardwalk to sit out in the daytime sun. Or take a  dip in the outdoor tub.

The gas grill island dining area is also conveniently located near the front door of the airstream. It truly is amazing to enjoy your meal as the light fades from the sky. Later, you can stretch out on the sun chairs (or the bed) and look up at the starry sky.

If it really does get too cold at night, don’t worry, you have a bed inside the luxury airstream, too. It’s all designed with options in mind and for the adventurous traveler who loves the great outdoors.

Stargaze/Unique Yurt Experience With Cedar Hot Tub

  • What Makes it Unique: There’s an authentic Mongolian feel in the design
  • Number of guests: 4
  • Amenities: living space, mini-fridge, dining area

Yurts have become increasingly popular in recent years, in part because their capacity for comfort and space exceeds that of standard western tents. This one includes the use of a hot tub and sits on a private estate within Joshua Tree.

Inside, the furnishings are authentic Mongolian in design. One of the very first striking features is the magnificently carved door. The wooden framing sticks just seem to add space, while large sliding doors let in loads of light in the day. Those same panes let you see out at night in order to enjoy the landscape.

Yurts are large round structures, so everything you need is included in the same space. This includes a mini-fridge and kitchen essentials. You can also use the outdoor grill and dining area for convenience.

For a delightful evening experience, relax in the private hot tub. Then engage in a good conversation around the fire pit – it’s the perfect setting to bond with loved ones. You may even see a small desert critter running by during your stay.

Yurt Tent #2 With Pool

  • What Makes it Unique: Bar and Pizza Service
  • Number of guests: 2
  • Amenities: pool, outdoor shower, serviced bathrooms

This yurt has a more western tent feel to it, although it passes for a yurt due to its styling. Once again, as with yurts, space is all about an open-plan concept. With chairs, bed, and basic items in one space.

The rest of the charm is all about what surrounds the yurt. Amenities like the bathroom are all located in outdoor buildings, but they have been afforded a luxury-style makeover. So you can enjoy a wonderfully warm outdoor shower.

The yurt is placed on an estate with several extra amenities, including a bar and pizza service. You can also take a dip in the pool for a refreshing experience. Then wait for sunset to see the dramatic lighting employed to illuminate the compound’s trees.

Purty Yurty and Mini Me

  • What Makes it Unique: Enjoy a stargazing tub out in the open
  • Number of guests: 2-4
  • Amenities: Stargazing tub, ice box, outdoor dining table

These twin yurts cater for up to four guests and are actually a main (Purty Yurty) and secondary (Mini-me) making it an excellent option for families and those traveling with kids. You’ve got plenty of scenic land to enjoy here, too – nearly 5 acres.

Look up through the top of the yurt at the night sky. Or take a stroll outside and enjoy the absolutely stunning views. Sunset and sunrise are equally gorgeous as you survey the landscape, the light, and the unique silhouettes of the trees and rocks.

Ultimately, this is a place of serenity, quiet, and relaxation. Inside, the queen bed, the small but serviceable table, and the lush rugs will make you feel comfortable in your surroundings. A small ice box will keep any drinks cool. Meanwhile, the balance of light and canvas wall will allow you to drift away into your own world, whether by book or daydream.

When you want a change of situation, try the stargazing tub, which stands outside under the night sky. Beyond that, a gas grill and outdoor camping table are ideal for making and enjoying a meal or two.

Luxury Camping in Joshua Tree With a Private Pool!

  • What Makes it Unique: Superbly furnished tent (and a stylish french-press coffee maker)
  • Number of guests: 4
  • Amenities: Private pool, bathrooms, outdoor dining

Aside from the inviting bed and the private pool on offer, then realize that the heated outdoor shower and fire pit are just the icings on the cake for a stay here.

As is expected for glamping at Joshua Tree, the views and environment are stunning. Inside, though, the little extra touches like the pink flamingo basket and gorgeous styled coffee table sitting area add the charm.

There’s surprisingly plenty of living space in this 16-foot tented yurt. The yurt itself is designed with some additional shading for the outdoors, too.

Bathroom areas are clean and private, the little gas grill is ready to go, and the plunge pool is a perfect respite from the hot sunny afternoon.

ALL Season Yurt- JT Highlands- Best Location Ever!

  • What Makes it Unique: Exquisite interior and setting
  • Number of guests: 2
  • Amenities: pool in summer, superb interior apartment-like setting

On the edge of the Joshua Tree National park sits this delightful oasis with its yurt suite. It’s so beautifully set up it could pass for an actual apartment in some cities. Nestled among a pretty arrangement of trees and shrubs, this truly feels like a home away from home – albeit in a camping or glamping context.

This is also a private community setting, perfect if you’re looking to avoid running into casual passersby. The Mojave setting is appealing as it is unique and silent (as this terrain goes). Across the road is the Desert Tortoise Preserve, dedicated to the preservation of one of Joshua Tree’s most prized inhabitants and California’s state reptile, the Gopherus agassizii.

The pool is available in the summer months. And in winter, the snowy setting is in itself a wondrous experience. You’ll feel like you’ve entered a winter wonderland, with the yurt providing a cozy and warm respite.

Still, the hikes starting just across the road and into the Mojave Desert Preserve are nothing short of spectacular. This is the perfect option for couples looking to spend a quiet getaway together while exploring the wonders of the natural beauty while glamping near Joshua Tree.

The Kosmic Tortoise

  • What Makes it Unique: Geodesic Domes
  • Number of guests: 2 per dome – 2 domes
  • Amenities: Outdoor bathrooms, mini-fridge, on-site restaurant

Set in the Twenty Nine Palms near Joshua Tree, this hyper-modern dome design tent is definitely something that adventurous and innovative campers will absolutely love. Named the Kosmic Tortoise for a good reason, it resembles a sort of sci-fi worth tortoise nesting on its platform. Some even call it a Joshua Tree igloo.

Geodesic domes were a unique engineering approach to tent structure. It has a framework based on triangular shapes, overall forming a “ball” or geodesic polyhedron. They were initially considered as a housing option, finding some interest in the 60s and 70s.

Sadly, the concept never took off en masse for domestic use, although some notable structures use them on an industrial scale – for example, the Spaceship Earth at Epcot in Walt Disney World Resort. But here, you can experience what life in a geodesic dome might have looked like.

Each of the two Joshua Tree tents provides space for two people. They also offer private outdoor bathrooms, as well as a mini-fridge, firepit, and grill areas. The camping complex also has an on-site restaurant.

House of the Rising Moon- Epic Patio & Outdoor Tub

  • What Makes it Unique: Huge patio deck, superb relaxation options
  • Number of guests: 2
  • Amenities: Huge patio deck, bedrooms, stylish large interior

Once more, just walking up to a trailer like this may be enough to get you excited for a stay here. This is a superbly kept luxury RV camping option.

But the real beauty of this particular trailer is on the inside. The exquisite interior lays out perfectly, with ample space for lounging, sleeping, or watching TV. Perhaps most intriguingly, there’s a vintage poster in the bed area featuring The Beatles.

When you venture outside, you’ll want to try the outdoor bathtub, complete with hot running water. The suspended daybed and beach make a case for spending hours soaking up the sun with a good book.

There’s an ample dinner table that can seat six under the stars and looks out onto a great flat landscape. The patio on which it stands is enormous by glamping standards, and it’s covered, offering shelter from the worst of the sun’s UV rays.

The Zeppelin at The Buzzards Roost Permaculture Ranch in Joshua Tree

  • What Makes it Unique: ‘Zeppelin’ shaped 1950s RV
  • Number of guests: 4
  • Amenities: covered deck and outdoor relaxation areas, bathroom, bedroom

This trailer is 33 feet long and truly resembles the golden era of the atomic age. It also features a huge covered deck and has several seating options. This includes a small table where you can enjoy dinners and the fresh breeze (or hot sun). Don’t forget the daybeds and sofa upon which to while away those lazy hours.

The interior is restored to resemble the RVs original look. A full bed in the rear bedroom sleeps two individuals, while an additional two can sleep in a sofa bed in the front area of the RV.

The interior appliances are all powered by solar energy and sustainable solutions. That said, the little kitchen area is charming with its wood finishes and easy flow.

This zeppelin trailer was rescued from certain destruction by the hosts. There’s love and lots of effort put into the restoration when you consider the trouble they went through to relocate it. Clearly, staying here makes you a part of that love and rediscovery of a great American legend.

This trailer is often the subject of many photographers’ interests. So you know it’s interesting!

Final Thoughts on Glamping Joshua Tree

Glamping in Joshua Tree

Getting out to the desert is fun, refreshing, and definitely something to try if you’re tired of the city. Joshua Tree is one of those places that are quite unique, both for its landscape and accommodation options.

There’s a sense of isolation, or at least quiet out here. You can even feel a throwback to the atomic age in style and atmosphere in many respects. If nothing else, the opportunity to cast your face up to this sky housing stars and the milky way is worth the trip alone. At some of these glamping locations, you can do that from the comfort of a plunge pool, tub, or even a bed.

RVs are popular, as are yurts, but you will also have the opportunity to try a geodesic dome if you so choose. Regardless of your choice, know that those unique trees await you. So book your Joshua Tree tent, RV, or dome now!
